Know how to cross multiply and divide

One of the key things you'll need to do is to solve for an unknown variable. You may remember one and two step equations from school. For example, suppose you worked at a factory that produced toys and it created an equation to determine the number of toys to produce on a given day of the month. It looked like this...
toys = 25 + 2 times Z, where Z = the day of the month (1,2,3,...)
So, on the 3rd of the month, the company would produce 25 + 2 times 3 = 25 + 6 = 31
What if I wanted to know the day of the month, given the number of toys that were produced. This involves re-arranging the equation and solving for Z, when you know the number of toys produced.
Suppose you want to know the day it was if the company produced 55 toys.
55 = 25 + 2 x (..times) Z ..... 55 = 25 + 2 x Z
Solve for Z
You have to first subtract 25 from both sides of the equation.
55 - 25 = 2 x Z
30 = 2 x Z
Now, You have to divide both sides by 2 to solve for Z.
30⁄2 = 15
So, Z = 15...It must be the 15th day,
